MetMalaysia has issued a weather warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across Penang, Sabah and Sarawak, with alerts in effect through Tuesday (16 September).
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the warning covers several areas in Sarawak, including Limbang, Miri and its Subis district, as well as Kuching and its Lundu district, NST reported.
The alert remains in effect until 11am for Sarawak and Sabah, and until noon for Penang.
In Sabah, the warning extends to West Coast areas such as Penampang, Putatan, Papar, Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Kinabalu, as well as Interior locations including Membakut, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Tambunan, Keningau and Tenom, Malay Mail reported.
MetMalaysia said in a statement that the whole of Penang falls under the warning until noon today.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert to sudden weather changes and to avoid low-lying or flood-prone areas during heavy downpours. Motorists are urged to exercise caution on roads that may experience reduced visibility and water accumulation.
The warning comes as Malaysia enters the northeast monsoon transition period, which typically brings unpredictable weather patterns across the peninsula and east Malaysia.
