LEÑA at Pizzeria Turns Batu Ferringhi Sunset Into a Full Night of Fire-Led Dining

Featured

There is a version of Batu Ferringhi that most visitors never see. It arrives after sunset, when the familiar daytime restaurant along the beachfront quietly changes character. Pizzeria, known through the day for casual pizza and pasta, gives way to LEÑA at Pizzeria: a fire-led dining concept at Hard Rock Hotel Penang that trades the ordinary for something built around flame, craft and long evenings at the table.

From the wood oven to the rotisserie, there’s plenty to share

The name borrows from the Spanish word for firewood, and that is not a decorative detail. Fire runs through nearly every plate that leaves the kitchen. The wood-fired oven turns out pizzas like the Margherita and the Mediterranean Lamb Kofta, while a rotisserie works through the evening on heavier cuts: Charcoal-Grilled Beef Ribeye, Grilled Lamb Shoulder, and a Fish of the Day that shifts with what comes in fresh. Each dish carries its own accompaniment, from the ribeye’s roasted potatoes and rosemary jus to the lamb shoulder’s garlic, oregano and lemon salsa.

Rodrigo Benedicto, Director of Food & Beverage at Hard Rock Hotel Penang

Rodrigo Benedicto, Director of Food & Beverage at Hard Rock Hotel Penang, sums up the idea behind it plainly: “LEÑA at Pizzeria is where it all begins. The fire our craft, and the table where everything is shared.”

The Surf & Turf Platter, Gambas Al Ajillo, The Meat Platter, Tomato Confit & Labneh with Focacia Bread on the side

That instinct for sharing runs through the whole menu. Starters like Gambas Al Ajillo and Tomato Confit & Labneh are built to be passed around rather than eaten alone, and the Family Sharing Platters carry the evening’s biggest statements. The Surf & Turf Platter pairs char-grilled Black Angus ribeye with grilled tiger prawns, salsa verde and housemade beef jus, while the Meat Platter brings smoky chicken thigh, grilled lamb shoulder and char-grilled striploin together on one board, the kind of dish that turns a table of strangers into a table of friends by the second course.

Tagliatelle Beef Ragu, Spaghetti Frutti di Mare & The Bowl

For those who want something slower, the pasta section leans into comfort. The Tagliatelle Beef Ragu rests on beef shin braised until it falls apart on the fork, and the Spaghetti Frutti di Mare brings baby prawns, clams and squid together in a roasted prawn bisque sharp with chilli and lemon zest. Diners looking for a lighter start can turn to The Bowl, a vegetable-forward plate of cumin garlic roasted broccoli, smoked sweet potatoes and black rice, finished with a tahini lime dressing.

Enjoy the alluring sunset view right from LEÑA at Pizzeria

As the sun drops over Batu Ferringhi’s coastline, the glow from the oven and rotisserie folds into the last light of the sky, and the room takes on a warmth that no amount of interior design could manufacture on its own. The atmosphere is deliberately unhurried. This is not a restaurant built for a quick meal before bed. It is built for the kind of dinner that runs long, where the food gives people a reason to stay at the table rather than a reason to leave.

An Add-On Sides menu, from Truffle Parmesan Fries to Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato, rounds out any order without forcing a decision too early, and the starters list gives diners room to ease into the evening before the platters and rotisserie mains take over. Take a peek at their new menu here.

LEÑA at Pizzeria operates every evening at Hard Rock Hotel Penang, Batu Ferringhi, for those ready to trade an ordinary dinner for one worth remembering.
