Sunway Carnival Mall marks Mid-Autumn with Moonlit Togetherness celebration

Featured

Mid-Autumn returns to Seberang Jaya this month, and Sunway Carnival Mall is marking the occasion with a full slate of workshops, performances and festive shopping under the theme Moonlit Togetherness · 月下相聚.

The festival has long centred on family, food and the moon, and this year’s programme leans into all three. Rather than a single event, the mall has spread its celebration across the month, giving shoppers several reasons to return before the season ends.

On the activities front, Chinese Music Instrument Performances continue on 12 and 19 September, filling the mall with live melodies that nod to tradition without feeling staged. A Fragrance Pouch Making Workshop follows on 13 September, offering a hands-on session for those keen to try their hand at a craft tied closely to the festival’s scent and symbolism. The programme closes with a Mini Bamboo Lantern Decorating Workshop on 20 September, a fitting send-off given lanterns remain one of the most recognisable symbols of Mid-Autumn. Sessions run at 3pm, though the mall has flagged that timings may shift without prior notice.

Shoppers with mooncakes on their mind need not look far. The Mid-Autumn Festive Fair at South Atrium runs until 23 September, bringing together a lineup of established and newer names, including Baker’s Cottage, Casahana, Duria, Gyenn, Flourlab, Hong Kong Bay, Oversea and Yong Sheng. The spread covers familiar snowskin and baked varieties alongside more contemporary flavours, giving shoppers room to pick between nostalgia and novelty depending on who they are buying for.

Two redemption promotions run in tandem with the festivities. Shoppers who spend RM500 (RM400 for UOB cardmembers) across a maximum of two same-day receipts can redeem a Tang Tea RM10 Cash Voucher. Those spending RM950 (RM850 for UOB cardmembers) under the same conditions qualify for a Moonlit Ceramic Holder instead. Both redemptions are available at the Concierge on the 2nd floor, while stocks last and subject to terms and conditions.

Chai Wen Yew, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Malls Northern Region, said the celebration was designed with connection in mind. “Mid-Autumn is a celebration that brings people together through traditions, shared moments and the simple joy of being with those who matter. With Moonlit Togetherness · 月下相聚, we hope to create a festive experience where families and friends can reconnect, and allowing them to discover the beauty of our cultural traditions and enjoy the season together. We warmly welcome everyone to Sunway Carnival Mall this Mid-Autumn as we celebrate the spirit of togetherness under the moonlight.”

The timing of this year’s celebration comes shortly after the mall completed a major expansion, adding 500,000 square feet of net lettable area and bringing the total to four shopping floors with over 350 retail stores. The revamp also introduced the Northern Region’s largest cinema, a 13-screen cineplex, cementing the mall’s position as one of the bigger retail draws on mainland Penang.

Opened in 2007, Sunway Carnival Mall has grown into one of the area’s most visited shopping destinations, pulling in around 12 million shoppers annually. Its location in the town centre of Seberang Jaya, with direct access via the North-South Expressway and Lebuhraya Butterworth-Kulim, continues to make it a convenient stop for shoppers across Seberang Perai and beyond.

For those planning a visit, more details on the Mid-Autumn celebration are available at www.sunwaycarnival.com or on the mall’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
