Iconic Marjorie Penang has won Toilet of the Year 2026 (TOTYA’26) in the Hotel Category, after first being named one of the Top 3 finalists in the national search. The hotel, a Tribute Portfolio property in Bayan Lepas, received the award for its public washroom facilities.
The award runs under a national recognition initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT). It was set up to stress the value of clean, hygienic and well-managed public toilets, and to reward operators who keep those facilities in shape all year rather than only when inspectors call.
For Iconic Marjorie Penang, the win covers the washrooms used by guests and visitors across the property. The hotel said the recognition reflects its standards of cleanliness, functionality and comfort, and that those standards form part of the wider guest experience rather than a separate housekeeping task.

The property’s approach puts attention on the facilities guests meet in passing: the entrance corridors, the vanity areas, the cubicles and the signage that guides people in. Tiles, lighting, mirrors and fittings are finished to the same level as the hotel’s rooms and public spaces, which is where most of the judging weight sits in a category that compares hotels against each other.

The hotel credited its team for the result, noting that clean facilities depend on routine checks and maintenance rather than a single deep clean before an assessment. Staff keep the washrooms stocked and inspected through the day, and faults are logged for repair instead of being left for the next shift.

TOTYA’26 carries added weight this year because it runs alongside the ASEAN Public Toilet Awards, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC). The winner of the KPKT Best Toilet Award will go on to represent Malaysia at the regional level, where it will be measured against entries from other ASEAN countries.
Iconic Marjorie Penang opened as a Tribute Portfolio hotel with 298 guestrooms and suites. Its interiors were designed with hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) and draw on Penang’s Baba-Nyonya heritage. Facilities include an infinity pool, a jacuzzi, a 24-hour fitness centre and the WellNest Spa on Level 13. The hotel’s food and drink outlets are Tiffin Hall, Loom & Leafs Lounge and Senses Bar.
