Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg has been spotted filming scenes in Penang, with videos of the actor on a closed road quickly going viral on social media.

Clips uploaded by members of the public on 11 JULY showed Wahlberg, dressed in a dark green long-sleeved shirt and jeans, stepping out of a car before walking into a shop. According to The Straits Times, the shoot is believed to be part of Netflix’s upcoming movie The Big Fix.

The footage captured the scale of the production, with crew members setting up large camera rigs, lighting equipment and a lifting platform. Some roads were temporarily closed to accommodate filming activities.

The Big Fix stars Wahlberg alongside British actor Riz Ahmed. Directed by Baltasar Kormakur, the film follows a former Interpol officer working inside FIFA who uncovers a global match-fixing operation, leading to a high-stakes investigation. According to Deadline, the movie is inspired by a true story and based on the book by Brett Forrest.

Production is primarily based in Sydney, Australia, with additional scenes shot in other locations to support the film’s global storyline. Variety reported that the Netflix production is expected to inject around US$55 million into the New South Wales economy.

The film also features an international cast, including Singaporean actor Chin Han, Indian actor Vipin Sharma and Malaysian actress Nuha Jes Izman, who is based in the United States.

Wahlberg, known for films such as Transformers, The Departed and Ted, has previously worked with Kormakur on Contraband and Two Guns.
