Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo opened in Malaysia at 8pm on 16 October, and most of the first-batch stock that was checked had gone within an hour, SoyaCincau found. Apple’s first foldable iPhone goes on sale on Friday, 23 October, but demand is running ahead of the allocation held by authorised retailers and telcos. New orders through Apple’s own online store now carry an estimated delivery date of 22 January 2027 onwards.
Apple described demand for the new model as “nothing short of extraordinary” in a statement to the Financial Times, as reported by MacRumors. The company said it is “working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers’ hands as quickly as possible”. Pre-orders opened at 5am Pacific Time, which is 8pm in Malaysia. Delivery estimates slipped from 23 October to November within minutes, and reached 25 January by 5.30am.
Retail checks paint a tighter picture. Machines and Switch have sold out most Duo configurations on their online stores, while Senheng lists remaining units for January 2027 onwards. Every Duo listing on the official LazMall and Shopee Mall stores has gone. Fresh allocations and cancelled orders can free up stock, so a recheck closer to launch day is worthwhile.
Telecommunications providers hold the next best chance. Maxis, CelcomDigi, U Mobile and Yes 5G list units, but several higher-capacity variants have run out, including the 512GB, 1TB and 2TB models, leaving mainly the 256GB version. A live listing does not promise launch-day delivery: some telco configurations show fulfilment dates stretching into November. Buyers should read the expected delivery or collection date before confirming an order.
Retail sales begin on 23 October, and Apple and selected retailers may set aside a separate allocation for walk-in customers and in-store collection. Judging by the pre-order rush, that stock could be very thin. Anyone planning to queue should confirm with the store, retailer or telco outlet first.
Malaysian pricing for the Duo starts at RM9,499 for 256GB, then RM10,499 for 512GB, RM12,499 for 1TB and RM15,499 for 2TB. Two finishes are offered, Star White and Night Sky.
Supply was expected to run short. Reports before the launch pointed to manufacturing difficulties, and Apple has not said whether walk-in stock will be available on 23 October. Its website asks buyers to check availability again from 24 October. Pricing in the United States starts at US$1,999 and reaches US$3,199 for the 2TB model, and the first orders there arrive on 23 October as well.
Foldables remain a small slice of the phone market, and first-generation models typically arrive in limited volumes while production lines settle. That pattern puts extra weight on timing for anyone in Malaysia hoping to hold a Duo this year: the gap between ordering in the first hour and ordering on the second day now runs to about three months of waiting.
