Fahmi Fadzil Conferred Datuk Seri Title In Penang State Honours

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has been conferred the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN), which carries the title ‘Datuk Seri’, making him the sole recipient of the award this year.

According to NST, the conferment took place at the 2026 Penang state awards, medals, and honours investiture ceremony, held in conjunction with the 85th birthday celebration of Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib.

The Star reported that Fahmi, who is also the unity government spokesperson, heads the list of 1,221 recipients of state honours, awards and medals this year.

The ceremony, held at Dewan Sri Pinang, saw 19 individuals conferred the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), which also carries the title ‘Datuk Seri’. Among them were MARA Incorporated Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Mohammad, Invest Penang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian, and Chief Judge of Malaya Datuk Seri Hashim Hamzah.

Also receiving the DGPN were Pelita Samudra Pertama (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Tan Sri D. Murugan, Menara Rezeki Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Saiful Nizam Mohd Yusoff, and M Summit Group chairman Datuk Moh See Eng.

Nine individuals received the Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN), including former Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail and UEM Group Bhd managing director Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin.

Meanwhile, 72 others were conferred the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), both of which carry the title ‘Datuk’. Among them was the late renowned film actor, director and scriptwriter with Cathay-Keris Film Productions, Nordin Ahmad, who received the award posthumously.

Other DSPN recipients included National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) director-general Meor Ismail Meor Akim, Bank Rakyat chairman Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak, Penang Development Corporation (PDC) CEO Abdul Latiff Abd Aziz, and SRS Projek Transit Aliran Ringan (LRT) Sdn Bhd project director Adil Putra Ahmad.

According to Sinar Daily, the investiture ceremony will be held over four days, beginning on July 11 and continuing on July 13, 14 and 15. Overall, 101 people received state honours, while another 1,120 received medals and honours this year.

The conferment of the Penang state awards, medals, and honours represents the state government’s highest recognition for individuals who have made outstanding contributions in various fields, including public administration, economic development, investment, education, security, communications, and community service.
