Two siblings were injured after being hit by a car while attempting to cross the road along Jalan Paya Terubong here on Tuesday night.
Northeast district police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake said the incident occurred at about 11.10pm near SJK(C) Aik Hua.
He said a 37-year-old man who was driving the car allegedly struck the victims — an 18-year-old woman and her 12-year-old brother — as they were believed to be crossing the road.
“The driver did not sustain any injuries, while both pedestrians suffered multiple injuries to the head, face, legs and hands,” he said in a statement.
Lee said police received a traffic report on the incident at about 12.05pm the following day. He added that the case has since gone viral on social media and drawn public attention.
The seven-second video footage showed the boy putting on his spectacles while his sister lay face down in the middle of the road.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Those who witnessed the incident or have dashcam recordings are urged to come forward to assist in investigations by contacting investigating officer Inspector Lim Zhao Yong at 011-1907 8888.
