A powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, registering a magnitude of 7.7, as reported by the German Press Agency (dpa). According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres and was recorded at approximately 12:50 pm (0620 GMT).
The epicentre was situated around 16 kilometres from the city of Sagaing, in the north-west of Myanmar, as stated by the USGS. The tremors were felt in Bangkok, the capital of neighbouring Thailand.
