PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) will be working closely with the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) to conduct a scheduled pavement maintenance work in order to improve comfort and safety for Penang Bridge customers, especially Penangites, from 16 August 2021 to 30 December 2021.
The pavement maintenance works on the Penang Bridge will be carried out in stages between KM0.2 and KM8.3 on the Perai to Island stretch to reduce traffic disruption. According to En Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, Chief Operations Officer (COO) of PLUS, “Road maintenance works are scheduled to take place only at night starting from 10 pm to 6 am.”
To facilitate the maintenance works, lane closures will be activated in stages to maintain a passable two lanes at all times for public’s convenience. PLUS will also ensure traffic information as well as lane closures on the bridge are disseminated to the public continuously through electronic signages placed at strategic locations leading to the Penang Bridge.
“However, during the maintenance work on the middle lane, the right lane will need to be closed for safety purposes. Therefore, only the left lane is accessible to traffic. If there is a need, the right lane will be open to customers,” he added. As such, highway customers are also advised to plan their journey or utilize other alternative route throughout the period.
