As part of its ongoing expansion and commitment to excellence, Penang-based Iconic Group has made strategic leadership changes, promoting Kevin Cheah to group general manager and appointing Teoh Boon Kheng as hotel manager of Iconic Hotel Penang, both effective 1st September 2024.
In his new role, Kevin Cheah will oversee Iconic Hotel Penang, Iconic Regency Service Residences and the upcoming 5-star Iconic Marjorie Hotel, set to open in Q4 2024.
With over 20 years of hospitality experience, Cheah brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. He joined Iconic Hotel Penang as general manager in April 2018.
His career includes stints with Shangri-La International Hotels & Resorts and Millennium Hotels & Resorts. Cheah is also an advisor to IPK College in Penang and vice chairman of the Malaysia Association of Hotels Penang Chapter.
A double diploma graduate in hotel and travel management from Reliance College, Cheah started his career at Penang Mutiara Resort as an event coordinator.
His last posting was executive assistant manager at G Hotel Penang. Cheah also has pre-opening experience and handled sales and marketing for G Hotel Kelawai, Penang.
Teoh Boon Kheng, affectionately known as BK, began his hotel career in 1997, working at renowned properties like Equatorial Hotel and Sunway Hotel. After a decade in the hospitality industry, Teoh took a hiatus to explore opportunities in other sectors.
During his 10-year break from hotels, Teoh accumulated valuable management skills that would later prove instrumental in his return to hospitality. In 2017, he rejoined the hotel sector as F&B manager at Iconic Hotel.
Teoh’s diverse experience and leadership skills are expected to guide Iconic Hotel as it continues to uphold its high standards. His appointment as hotel manager coincides with the property’s 8th anniversary celebrations, marking a new chapter for the establishment.
Meanwhile, Iconic Hotel Penang is celebrating its 8th anniversary on Sept 8. For its anniversary, the hotel is offering special room packages and buffet deals for events. It’s also running a “standing bed” photo contest in the lobby, with prizes including a luxury stay and theme park tickets.
