Malaysia recorded 28.8 million international visitor arrivals from January to August 2026. This is 1.8 per cent higher than the 28.2 million recorded in the same period in 2025. Domestic visitor arrivals reached 151.6 million in the first half of 2026. This is a 5.6 per cent increase from the 143.5 million recorded in the same period last year.

Trip.com has an estimated 6.67 million registered members. The partnership gives Penang a wider reach in both domestic and international markets. It is expected to lift demand for local accommodation. It should also bring economic spillover benefits to tourism players, related businesses and local communities.

Penang offers a wide range of tourism products and experiences. These include heritage, gastronomy, arts and culture, nature and urban attractions. Tourism Malaysia says continued promotion and strategic collaboration with industry players can strengthen Penang’s appeal as a sustainable and culturally rich destination.

Tourism Malaysia will keep working with industry stakeholders and strategic partners. It plans to diversify its promotional approaches, expand market reach and support the sustainability and competitive growth of the national tourism industry.
