A Proton Wira driver who allegedly rammed a Perodua Axia off the North-South Expressway near Nilai is being hunted by police after dashcam footage of the collision went viral on social media.
The 60-second clip, which surfaced on Facebook around 3:30 pm on 20 September 2026, shows the Proton Wira apparently racing another vehicle on the northbound stretch of the highway before clipping the Axia and driving away, InfoTrending reported. The dashcam metadata places the incident at 9:10 am that morning, with the vehicle recording a speed of 95 km/h at the time.
Nilai District Police Chief Superintendent Johari Yahya confirmed that the collision occurred at approximately 9:10 am on the same day at Kilometre 278.3 of the PLUS highway, heading north. The Axia, driven by a man in his 40s who was travelling from Seremban towards Kuala Lumpur, was struck by the Proton Wira and spun off the road onto the shoulder, he said.
Based on the dashcam recording, the Proton Wira was believed to have been travelling at high speed and in a reckless manner before hitting the Axia, NST reported, citing the police chief. The Axia driver was unharmed in the incident.
The footage shows the Proton Wira apparently jostling with another car before forcing the Axia towards the road shoulder, where it lost control and came to a stop. The Proton Wira driver did not stop and continued northbound, the report noted.
Johari said Nilai traffic enforcement investigators were alerted to the viral video at around 3:30 pm that afternoon. A review of the recording and the dashcam metadata helped police pinpoint the exact location and time of the crash, he disclosed.
Police are now looking for the unidentified Proton Wira driver and have urged anyone with information, including additional dashcam footage, to come forward. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, Johari stated.
Under the provision, a first offence carries a jail term of up to five years and a fine between RM1,000 and RM5,000 upon conviction. Repeat offenders face heavier penalties.
