Armed Men Rob Goldsmith Shop 300m From Klang Police Station

Featured

Four armed men attempted to rob a goldsmith shop on Jalan Tengku Kelana in Klang, just 300 metres from the district police headquarters, in broad daylight on 20 August.

CCTV footage of the heist, which has since gone viral, showed helmeted men inside the premises wielding sledgehammers and smashing repeatedly against the shop’s reinforced glass display case, TRP reported. A third suspect stood nearby holding an object resembling a pistol.

Despite their efforts, the glass held. The security alarm blared. Within seconds, the trio abandoned their attack and sprinted towards the entrance, where a fourth suspect waited on a motorcycle. All four then fled the scene along Jalan Tengku Kelana.

South Klang deputy district police chief Superintendent Kamalariffin Aman Shah confirmed the Criminal Investigation Division had opened an investigation paper. The case is being probed under two serious offences.

The first charge, under Section 394 of the Penal Code, covers causing hurt during an attempted gang robbery and carries a jail term of up to 20 years, a fine, or whipping upon conviction, according to NST. The second, under Section 4 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, addresses displaying a firearm during an attempted robbery. That section carries life imprisonment and at least six strokes of the rotan.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact investigating officer Inspector Mohamad Sulaimi Alawi @ Shaari at 014-5719405 or the South Klang district police operations room at 03-33762222. FMT noted that the public can also walk into the nearest police station with information.

The incident took place during morning trading hours at a busy commercial strip in Klang. Jalan Tengku Kelana is known for its row of goldsmith shops and sits directly opposite the South Klang district police headquarters, making the brazen attempt all the bolder.

The footage has sparked widespread discussion online. One commenter pointed out that the goldsmith shop sits barely 300 metres from the police station, calling the attempt extremely daring. Others questioned why the shop’s security guard was not carrying a weapon, though another commenter explained that only Malaysian citizens holding a valid licence are permitted to carry firearms as security guards.
