Google Offers Free One-Year AI Plus Plan for Malaysian Students

Featured

Malaysian university students can now claim a free one-year Google AI Plus subscription as part of Google’s global back-to-school push across more than 140 countries. The offer, available to college students aged 18 and above, gives access to Gemini Omni, expanded usage limits during peak exam periods, and 400GB of cloud storage for academic materials.

Google announced the initiative alongside new study features built into Gemini, its AI-powered assistant, as reported by SAYS. The programme targets tertiary students preparing for the upcoming semester, with eligibility verified through SheerID on Google’s official portal.

The free tier unlocks voice, text, and video interaction through Gemini Omni, plus unlimited uploads for study notebooks and interactive visualisations. Students can upload lecture slides, syllabi, and course notes to create personalised study plans, practice quizzes, and performance dashboards.

For those needing more computing power, Google is offering the premium AI Pro plan at a discounted rate of RM23.99 per month, down from the standard RM97.99. That tier includes four times higher usage limits, AI features built into Google Workspace apps such as Gmail and Google Docs, 5TB of cloud storage, and YouTube Premium Lite, according to Google’s official blog.

A separate bundle pairs AI Pro with a full YouTube Premium subscription for RM33.49 per month, reduced from RM118.89. Both the discounted Pro plan and the YouTube bundle are available through verification for up to four years, renewing at the standard monthly rate once student status concludes.

Alongside the subscription offers, Google has rolled out several new tools for students. A dedicated student hub in the Gemini app consolidates study notebooks, flashcards, and practice quizzes in one space. Interactive 3D visualisations let learners rotate and explore scientific models, while Gemini Live now supports deep research reports that run asynchronously in the background.

Google said the programme aims to equip Malaysian graduates with digital competencies for an increasingly automated workforce. By lowering the cost barrier for advanced AI tools, the company hopes more students can integrate AI-assisted learning into their daily coursework.

The free AI Plus student plan is redeemable until 31 December 2026 on Google’s student portal. Both new users and students whose previous trial subscriptions have expired can qualify. A valid form of payment is required at sign-up, and unless cancelled earlier, the plan will automatically charge MYR 23.99 per month after the trial period ends.

Eligibility must be verified each year to maintain access. The offer is not available on school-issued accounts and is limited to individual use.
