Bukit Aman narcotics investigators have dismantled a methamphetamine trafficking syndicate allegedly led by a suspended police officer, seizing 425.3kg of the drug worth RM21.3 million in Cheras and Selangor.
Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the officer, who has been suspended since 2024, was among six suspects arrested in Ops Waja, conducted from 25 to 29 July, Malay Mail reported.
The suspected mastermind is a police officer in his 30s with one previous drug-related offence. He has been suspended from duty for the past two years, The Star reported.
Police seized 410 plastic packets containing the methamphetamine. Five local men, aged between 39 and 46, were also arrested.
Hussein said the syndicate had been active since early this year and comprised members from Kelantan. It used terrace houses around the Klang Valley as storage facilities before distributing the drugs to local and overseas markets, FMT reported.
All suspects have been remanded for six days until 31 July to assist in the investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Hussein said police had identified the remaining members of the syndicate and would take aggressive action to eliminate their drug distribution activities.
“The police will not compromise with any police officer or anyone else who betrays the force by engaging in drug trafficking activities,” he told a press conference at the Cheras District Police Headquarters.
