A man reported missing after failing to return home on 10 June has been confirmed dead, more than a month after his family first raised the alarm.
Barat Daya police chief ACP Anuwal Ab Wahab said Shahir Zainul, 46, was confirmed to have died on 11 June of acute coronary syndrome while receiving treatment at Penang Hospital (HPP). His body was identified by family members at the hospital’s Forensic Medicine Department on 17 July, according to The Star.
“Investigations found that Penang Hospital had earlier issued a public notice regarding the body of an unidentified adult male being kept at the hospital’s Forensic Medicine Department,” Anuwal said in a statement on 18 July.
“Following identification by family members, the deceased was confirmed to be Shahir Zainul, who died of acute coronary syndrome on 11 June while receiving treatment at Penang Hospital.”
Shahir was last seen leaving his home in Persiaran Mayang Pasir 2, Bayan Baru, at about 5am on 10 June, riding a motorcycle. A missing person report was lodged by his mother on 12 June, stating that her son had not returned home for two days following a disagreement, Malay Mail reported.
His motorcycle was later found abandoned along Lebuh Bukit Jambul. On 17 July, police launched a search and rescue operation with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) in the Agriculture Department area near where the motorcycle was discovered. The operation was called off the same day after yielding no results and no new leads were found.
Anuwal advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the incident, as doing so could cause unnecessary public concern.
