An accounts executive from Penang is RM8,169,660 richer after his RM2 Magnum 4D ticket matched the Jackpot 1 winning combination on 1 July.
The man, who has not been named, played numbers 8852 and 5573 — a set he derived from his and his wife’s identity card numbers following advice from a Chinese fortune teller the couple visited, according to The Star.
“The fortune teller had encouraged me to pay attention to meaningful numbers in my life, and I decided to choose a combination based on my own IC number and my wife’s IC number,” he told The Sun.
He bought the winning ticket at a Magnum 4D outlet along Jalan Paya Terubong in Air Itam and played the same two numbers in every draw for months.
The discovery came the day after the draw. He scanned his ticket on the MyMagnum 4D app and heard the winning notification. “At first, I thought it was just another small prize because I often use the MyMagnum 4D app to check my tickets,” he said. “When I realised it was RM8.17 Mil, I kept checking the screen again and again to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.”
He barely slept that night.
Despite becoming an instant millionaire, the man said he has no plans to quit his job. He intends to settle his debts, take his wife on a holiday, and allow her to retire comfortably while he continues working.
“From an RM2 ticket to RM8.17 Mil, this incredible win shows that every play has its own story,” a Magnum 4D spokesperson said, adding that many customers have traditions or favourite numbers that carry personal meaning.
