A five-year-old boy has died after falling from the 24th floor of a condominium in Teluk Kumbar, Penang.
Emyr Nader Redza was found on the fifth-floor podium by members of the public at 11.30pm on Thursday. They alerted authorities via the MERS 999 emergency line.
Emyr was the youngest of three siblings. His parents, Efwan Reza Rusdizal, 40, and Nurul Nadiah Mohamad, 40, had lived apart for two years due to work commitments in Kuala Lumpur, maintaining contact through daily video calls.
His father described Emyr as cheerful and affectionate, nicknamed “bos kecil” (little boss). The boy showed artistic talent, drawing cartoons and reproducing images from memory.
“To us, he was always cheerful. We could already see his talent through his drawings,” Efwan said.
“There was nothing unusual about him yesterday. He was his usual self and showed no changes in recent days.”
On their last memory together, Efwan said: “I put my daughter’s school headscarf on him before taking a photo. He looked just like his cousin, and we all laughed. We never imagined that would become our last memory together.”
Initial police and forensic investigations found no evidence of foul play. Southwest district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuwal Ab Wahab is expected to issue a media statement.
Emyr’s body will be taken to Petaling Jaya, Selangor, for burial after a post-mortem examination at Penang Hospital.
“We accept this fate and hope the public will refrain from speculating about the incident and allow our family the space to grieve. My son passed away on a blessed day and in a blessed month. I ask everyone to pray for him,” Efwan said.
