Pipe Burst on Jalan Raja Uda Triggers Water Supply Disruption Across Penang

Featured

A burst 135cm pipeline on Jalan Raja Uda in Butterworth has caused unscheduled water supply disruptions across the north Seberang Perai district and several areas on Penang island.

Penang Water Supply Corporation said repair works on the damaged pipeline, reportedly caused by a third-party contractor, began at 1am on Tuesday (19 May). All related valves have been shut off to enable repairs to proceed safely and quickly.

Consumers in north Seberang Perai, except those in Penaga, Bertam, Tasek Gelugor and Pinang Tunggal, may face low water pressure or supply disruptions within the next 24 hours. Several areas in the Southwest district on the island may also be affected.

The corporation has activated an additional emergency line at 04-5096509 from 9am, alongside its hotline and WhatsApp service at 04-255 8255. Consumers are advised to store enough water for one day’s use.

This is the second incident in three days involving the same main pipeline. On Sunday (17 May), a similar burst occurred on the same 135cm pipeline along Jalan Raja Uda, also reportedly linked to a third-party contractor. That incident caused temporary water supply interruptions in north Seberang Perai and affected end-of-line and high-ground areas in the Southwest District.
