Five vehicles parked at a flat in Jalan Perak were destroyed in a fire early this morning, with firefighters managing to prevent any loss of life.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 4.30am and a team from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the fire department found that the fire involved five vehicles in the ground floor parking area of the flat and it also involved part of the garage with an estimated 50 per cent damage,” he said in a statement today.
No casualties were reported in the incident. The fire brigade managed to bring the blaze under control by 4.38am and fully extinguished it by 5.09am.
The vehicles involved were a Nissan Grand Livina, Mitsubishi Xpander, Perodua Myvi, Toyota Hiace van and Proton Preve, suffering burns ranging from five per cent to 80 per cent.
The cause of the fire and the total value of losses are still under investigation by the fire forensic team.
