Grab your walking shoes and get ready for a capybara-themed adventure through the heart of George Town’s Unesco World Heritage site on 24 May.

The world’s first Capybara Pimoo-themed 5km fun walk will kick off from 1st Avenue Penang at 7.30am, winding through iconic streets including Magazine Road, Light Street, King Street, Chulia Street, Beach Street, Penang Road, Farquhar Street and Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the event was part of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, reflecting the state’s ambition to lead in creative tourism.

“This is the world’s first Capybara Pimoo fun walk, and we are transforming a global cultural trend into a unique experience for both local and international visitors,” he said.

The non-competitive walk will not involve any road closures, with participants using designated paths to minimise traffic disruption.

1st Avenue Penang general manager Crystal Wong said the mall would be decorated with Capybara Pimoo-themed displays throughout May to amplify the experience.

“Malls today are no longer just retail spaces, but lifestyle destinations where people come together to create meaningful experiences and lasting memories,” she said.

Komik Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Teh Chun Kai said the Capybara Pimoo character was chosen for its universal appeal and calming nature.

“It has become a widely loved character across communities; we want to use it to promote relaxation and positivity, especially at a time when many people are facing stress,” he said.

“This event is designed for all ages, from children to senior citizens, to come together, unwind and enjoy the experience.”

Teh added that participants would experience a blend of George Town’s heritage elements and the Capybara Pimoo IP along the route. A pop-up store will operate at the mall after the walk, making it the world’s first full IP experience event.

Participants will receive a themed T-shirt, finisher’s medal, e-certificate, merchandise and a lucky draw entry with prizes including a motorcycle.

Registration is open now.
