Driver Smashes Into 12 Cars During 20km Police Chase in Penang, Escapes

A driver who ploughed into 12 vehicles while fleeing from police over a roughly 20-kilometre chase in Penang remains at large, with authorities tracking him down.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said a patrol unit spotted the vehicle behaving suspiciously in Green Lane. When ordered to stop for inspection, the driver sped off towards Persiaran Gurney instead.

“The patrol unit continued the pursuit as the man attempted to evade arrest. He eventually escaped after about 20 kilometres, and efforts to locate him are ongoing,” he said.

During the chase, the driver collided with 12 vehicles belonging to other road users, causing varying degrees of damage. A 43-second video circulating on social media shows a patrol unit pursuing a speeding car that slammed into several vehicles along Persiaran Gurney.

Police have received 12 reports from victims so far. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
