Over 1,000 Penang FC supporters packed Padang Kota to watch the second leg of the 2025/2026 Challenge Cup final between Sabah FC and Penang FC on a giant screen.

The match, held at Likas Stadium in Sabah, followed the first final earlier this month at City Stadium which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mordi Bimol and Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) director Harry Chai Heng Hua joined fans at the screening, fostering sportsmanship among the community.

Mordi said the giant screen event was organised by MSNPP in collaboration with Penang City Council (MBPP) to bring together local supporters and provide an opportunity to enjoy the match in a lively atmosphere.

“The programme also aims to strengthen unity and promote a healthy lifestyle through leisure activities and football support,” he said.

“According to the organisers, more than 1,000 fans flooded Padang Kota to watch the big screen and support the Penang FC team,” he added.

Visitor Mohamad Rozaini Mohd Ramli, 35, brought his wife and two children to watch the final together.

He said he usually only took his eight-year-old son to City Stadium for Penang FC matches, but this time brought the whole family.

“The windy weather and spacious atmosphere at Padang Kota created an interesting setting for us to watch the final tonight, like being in the stadium but more relaxed,” said the factory electrician.

The crowd included families, youth and tourists, reflecting the deep interest Malaysians have in football.

Penang FC fans filled the screening area with thunderous cheers, creating an atmosphere that felt like being in a real stadium.
