Penang Ensures Plentiful Stock of Essential Goods for a Joyful Aidilfitri Celebration

Featured

The Penang Exco has been working to ensure an adequate supply of essential goods ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. However, specific details about Penang’s efforts are not provided in the available information. Instead, broader national initiatives have been highlighted to guarantee sufficient supplies during Ramadan and Aidilfitri.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has guaranteed the supply of 11 main agro-food items, including rice, coconut, chicken, and chicken eggs, throughout Ramadan and preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. This assurance was discussed at a recent executive committee meeting attended by key officials, including the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, and his deputy, Dr Fuziah Salleh.

Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has also been leading efforts through Ops Pantau 2025, a nationwide operation aimed at ensuring traders’ compliance with laws enforced by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. This operation focuses on monitoring the supply and pricing of goods, discount sales, the use of weighing instruments, and the sale of essential items for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The ministry has enhanced the presence of enforcement officers at key consumer locations and optimised its Enforcement Command Centre to address consumer complaints promptly.

Additionally, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has urged the public to report any shortages of bottled cooking oil, which have been attributed to global crude palm oil price increases and the government’s price ceiling policy. The ministry is considering special incentives to help companies increase cooking oil production and supply. Despite these challenges, the government remains confident in maintaining a sufficient supply of essential goods during the festive season.
