The Light Hotel launched the new BMW i Charging facility at their basement car park in collaboration with BMW Group Malaysia and Tian Siang Premium Auto this afternoon. There are a total of 3 charging bays available for hotel guests.

As we see more and more electric cars in the market, it’s essential for establishments to provide charging bays to cater to user needs and also to initiate support for the green movement of going electric.

After the launch, they all proceeded to Tree@III where Mr Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, Mr Raj Kumar, General Manager of The Light Hotel, Tan Ka Kin, Dealer Principal of Tian Siang Premium Auto and Renuka Radakrishnan of Penang Green Council took questions from members of the media.

Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, Hans de Visser hopes to see sales of BMW electric vehicles double this year. “We have been working closely with our network of dealers as well as key stakeholders leading up to the introduction of BMW i in 2015 to ensure the necessary charging infrastructures are in place for the acceleration of electromobility in the country. Our charging facilities are universal and will fit other electric cars from different manufacturers.” he said.

Tan Ka Kin, Dealer Principal of Tian Siang Premium Auto added, “The three new BMW i Charging facilities are added to the ten existing facilities we introduced previously across Ipoh and Penang. As we continue to grow the charging infrastructure in these states, we look forward to strengthening the confidence in Electrified Mobility – to which we have seen progressively grow in the past few years.”

The General Manager of The Light Hotel, Raj Kumar, echoes the sentiments on the uptake of electric vehicles, adding that “there is no better time than now for our hotel to facilitate this lifestyle change for the current generation. By providing BMW i Charging facilities here, we hope to appeal to guests and future business prospects with a sustainable business practice that benefits the environment.”

Ms Renuka RadaKrishnan of Penang Green Council was happy to mention that Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yow’s vision of Penang2030 welcomes initiatives like this as it is in line with their motives to make our state greener.

Right after, they proceeded outside for the Yee Sang tossing ceremony to mark the oncoming Chinese New Year.
