PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) announced that from this Sunday 31st October 2021, the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) toll payment system along its Hutan Kampung-Sg Dua stretch will go live to enable more highway customers to enjoy seamless, contactless, and cashless journeys. This also signifies the end of its public pilot from July 2020.

The RFID with an Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) toll payment system at PLUS has been enhanced to safely and seamlessly enable customers to pass through the lane without interruptions at a higher recommended lane pass-through speed (30 km/h) versus SmartTAG (20 km/h). In addition, the RFID system at PLUS integrated with an ANPR system and a Toll Validation Center (TVC) which will enhance toll payments processing as the first step to a barrier-less, multi-lane free flow (MLFF) highway experience in the future. Promoting a hassle-free cashless and contactless payment experience in line with the next normal, the RFID system will also make it easier for customers to reload and maintain sufficient balance through secure online reloading and auto-reloading via the Touch ‘n Go (TNG) e-Wallet.

“A first for the Malaysian highway industry, unique to the RFID experience at PLUS is the integrated ANPR and TVC system powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) & machine learnings which features high-resolution cameras at both entry and exit lanes enabling all RFID customers to always pass through the toll lane seamlessly. At PLUS, the integrated ANPR and TVC system will be able to detect, analyze and resolve most common RFID customer issues automatically in the background without interrupting the customer’s journey experience at the lane,” noted Datuk Azman Ismail, Managing Director of PLUS.

Datuk Azman also projected RFID usage at PLUS’ Hutan Kampung – Sungai Dua stretch, currently the highest among all closed toll highways in Malaysia will increase up to 30% in the upcoming months following the lifting of inter-state travel restrictions by the  Government. “We are collaborating with the states of Kedah and Penang to bring RFID to our local customers to gain a superior experience using RFID lanes,” he added.

Working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Works (KKR), the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd (TNG), PLUS is also looking to expand access to RFID toll payments at all its highways from Juru to Skudai in early 2022.

PLUS invites all highways customers in Kedah and Penang to switch to RFID for a seamless highway experience at PLUS. The TNG RFID can be purchased for only RM35, less than half the price of a new SmartTAG device with the added convenience of no batteries required. Locations of the nearest authorized RFID fitment centers, as well as detailed RFID self-fitment step-by-step guide are available on both the TNG and TNG Digital websites, or via the PLUS mobile app which can be downloaded from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. With this RFID ANPR offering a seamless highway journey in the North, many highway customers will be expecting TnGo to set up more RFID Fitment centres around key locations in Penang and Kedah which are easily accessible to those who are eager to migrate to RFID.
