This morning, a fire erupted from a gas pipeline at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor, causing significant alarm within the local community. The flames were so intense that residents likened the incident to a major earthquake, with the blaze visible from several kilometres away. Firefighting and rescue operations are ongoing.
At 8.23 am, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the gas pipeline blaze in Taman Puchong Perdana, Puchong, Selangor, after receiving an emergency call. Firefighters from various stations, including Subang Jaya, Puchong, Shah Alam, and others, were dispatched promptly.
By 9.30 am, the fire continued unabated with videos of the destruction and burning homes circulating on social media. Residents from nearby areas were evacuated. By 10.35 am, 25 individuals had received initial medical attention from Health Ministry personnel, with five transferred to Hospital Serdang due to injuries such as burns and breathing difficulties.
At 10.57 am, rescued individuals were brought to Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple in Subang Jaya for shelter. Shortly after, more victims required medical care and were transferred to hospitals in Serdang, Putrajaya, and Cyberjaya. At 11.06 am, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced the establishment of a temporary relief centre at Masjid Putra Heights.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) reported power supply issues in parts of Subang and Putra Heights at 11.14 am, deploying a technical team soon after to investigate. By 11.20 am, initial findings revealed the fire resulted from a gas pipeline leak stretching approximately 500 metres. Petronas Gas Bhd confirmed the fire at their main pipeline near Putra Heights at 8.10 am, clarifying that no Petronas service stations were involved.
By 11.30 am, electricity was restored in Subang Jaya. At 11.54 am, the Department of Environment started monitoring the air quality in the vicinity. Masjid Al-Falah USJ 9 in Subang Jaya began accommodating affected individuals at 12.19 pm.
As of 1.00 pm, 78 fire department personnel, equipped with 22 units including Fire Rescue Tender trucks and Emergency Medical Rescue Services, along with special teams like Hazmat, responded to the scene. By this time, 82 victims were rescued, with 12 reported injuries. Subsequently, at 1.05 pm, the Elite Expressway route between Seafield and Bandar Saujana Putra was closed, although the Civil Aviation Authority confirmed normal flight operations at Subang Airport.
At 1.25 pm, 63 individuals with burn injuries were transferred to hospitals, while four main valves in Dengkil, Puchong, Batu Tiga, and Meru were shut to release the remaining natural gas. This procedure is expected to last about four hours. By 1.30 pm, it was confirmed that the incident impacted 112 individuals and 49 homes.
At 1.40 pm, firefighting efforts continued, with emergency vehicles frequently seen at the site.
