The Global Electronics Association (GEA), formerly known as IPC, has officially opened its regional hub in Bayan Lepas, Penang, to strengthen the global electronics and electrical (E&E) supply chain.

The association said Malaysia was chosen for its established role as a global E&E powerhouse, strong semiconductor ecosystem, skilled workforce, and shift towards high-value manufacturing activities.

The Malaysia office has been operational since January 2026 and supports industry collaboration, standards adoption, workforce development, advanced packaging initiatives, and supply chain resilience across Southeast Asia.

GEA has already initiated Malaysia’s standards development through its first Standards Development Committee Meeting, bringing together companies from the EMS, wire harness, semiconductor, design, PCB, and electronics manufacturing sectors.

The project team is currently working on guidelines for requirements and acceptance of polytube harness assembly, supporting locally relevant standards aligned with global industry needs.

“Establishing our physical presence in Penang allows us to work directly alongside Malaysian policymakers and industry leaders to reduce regulatory barriers and streamline trade flows,” said GEA Country Manager Dr. Ranee Ramya.
