Penang’s business events sector generated RM1.91 billion in economic impact in 2025, reinforcing its role as a key driver of the state’s tourism and services economy despite global uncertainties.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the performance was supported by 3,391 events, drawing over 450,000 delegates and generating more than 800,000 room nights.
The sector continues to deliver strong spillover benefits, supporting jobs and business activity across industries, from hotels to SMEs, he added.
Despite cautious travel sentiment due to geopolitical tensions, Chow noted that business events remain resilient as they are purpose-driven.
“People travel for meetings, conferences and exhibitions, and often extend their stay, supporting tourism activity,” he said.
The Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau also launched the BE Associate programme to strengthen industry talent.
Chow said the initiative will equip students with practical exposure and help build a sustainable workforce pipeline, while supporting preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026.
He added that stronger coordination between federal and state agencies will be key to sustaining momentum and cushioning external uncertainties.
