UDA Holdings Bhd has allocated RM5 million for a public park and recreational facilities in Penang, including the 2.5-acre Laman Tanjong beside its Eight & Eight Condominium project in Tanjung Tokong, according to Bernama.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the condominium development also offered added value to buyers after its land status was converted from leasehold to freehold.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the Penang government for its cooperation and support in facilitating the conversion to freehold status for the Eight & Eight Condominium development,” he said.

“The collaboration between the federal government, the state government and implementing agencies such as UDA reflects the spirit of the Blue Ocean Strategy, which prioritises the synergy of expertise and resources across agencies to deliver practical, efficient and people-centric solutions,” he said.

He spoke at the launch of the Eight & Eight Experience Centre on 17 Oct, also attended by UDA chief executive officer Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali and Bukit Bendera member of parliament Syarleena Abdul Rashid. Land in the Tanjong Tokong area now fetches about RM800 to RM1,000 per sq ft, while UDA is selling units at about RM700 per sq ft, some 20 to 30 per cent below market, Kwong Wah Yit Poh noted.

He said Laman Tanjong would provide recreational space while enhancing the value of the development. The project would also create economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs by generating demand for various services.

Ahmad Fuaad said UDA had helped shape Penang’s growth since 1971, particularly in Tanjung Tokong, through residential, commercial and infrastructure projects that supported regional growth and the well-being of the local community.

“These projects are designed to enhance the quality of life by fostering a more inclusive environment, with essential amenities such as community halls, surau and multi-storey car parks,” he said, adding that the projects were “strategically located near shopping malls, schools and other key facilities”.

On other developments in the area, Ahmad Fuaad said the Warisan Tanjung project was being developed in phases on a 17.58-hectare site, comprising 3,836 residential units across low-cost, low-medium-cost, affordable and open-market categories.

Of the total, 1,200 units were designated as replacement homes for the original residents of Tanjung Tokong, with 550 units completed and handed over while the remaining 650 were in the planning stage.

UDA has also developed Desiran Tanjung, spanning 21.88 hectares, which includes Vantage Desiran Tanjung, a commercial area with about 120 shop-office units along Jalan Tanjung Tokong.

The Eight & Eight Condominium comprises 600 residential units in two towers. Each floor uses a single-loaded corridor design to optimise natural lighting and ventilation.

Scheduled for completion in 2029, the development targets first-time homebuyers, professionals and investors. Units include three-bedroom, two-bathroom layouts of 885 to 1,019 sq ft and three-bedroom, three-bathroom units of 1,139 sq ft, with prices starting at RM691,628.

Facilities include a surau, electric vehicle charging stations, a swimming pool, gymnasium, yoga space, game room, co-working space and aerobics room. The multipurpose hall can be used as a pickleball and badminton court, and there are indoor and outdoor barbecue areas.

Ahmad Fuaad said the development included environmental features such as low-volatile organic compound paints, a rainwater harvesting system, herb gardens and greenery. It sits near hospitals, schools, shopping malls and the Penang Botanic Gardens.

Buyers can also take part in the Bonanza Memenuhi Impian 2026 campaign, which runs until 31 Dec and offers a condominium unit at Residensi Dedaun in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras, valued at more than RM500,000, as its grand prize.
