A father from Penang has publicly thanked two police officers for helping his son reach hospital in time during a medical emergency, after the family found themselves stuck in traffic with their son unconscious.
The child, identified as Muhamad Faaeq bin Muhamad Fitri Zuhaili, collapsed suddenly at home. His parents rushed him straight towards Hospital Pulau Pinang for emergency treatment, but hit heavy traffic near the junction of Jalan Yeap Chor Ee and Jalan Masjid Negeri. The busy intersection, a known chokepoint during peak hours, left the family trapped with no clear route forward.
With the family unsure what to do next, they spotted a Police MPV on duty nearby and approached the officers for help. Corporal Siva and Constable Jerico, both from the Timur Laut District Police Headquarters (IPD Timur Laut), responded without hesitation, escorting the family’s car through the congestion until they reached the Emergency and Trauma Department at Hospital Pulau Pinang safely.
Their help did not stop at the hospital entrance. Cpl Siva got a wheelchair and helped bring the boy in for treatment. He also alerted medical staff to the child’s condition and helped get the attention of Dr Aou Tze Yang, so the boy could be assessed quickly. Given the seriousness of his condition, the child was taken to the Red Zone for further treatment.
According to the family, both officers stayed by their side throughout the ordeal, offering words of encouragement while the family waited anxiously for news of their son’s condition.
The father said he could not imagine what might have happened had they not come across the two officers that day, crediting their quick action with getting his son treated in time and preventing the situation from worsening.
He expressed hope that PDRM leadership, particularly IPD Timur Laut, would recognise the officers’ actions, saying such conduct reflects the spirit of “Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada” and strengthens public trust in the police force.
The family said they would always remember the kindness shown by Cpl Siva and Constable Jerico, and prayed that the officers would be protected and rewarded for their good deed.
