A 36-year-old woman died after apparently suffering a heart attack while driving along Jalan Macalister in George Town on 13 August. Free Malaysia Today reported that her multi-purpose vehicle crashed into two parked motorcycles outside Yummy Cottage restaurant on the busy road.
Timur Laut police chief Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the motorcycles were parked by the roadside and had no riders at the time. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the crash, which took place on Thursday afternoon.
According to The Star, Rozak said in a press statement: “We were made aware of the viral video on Thursday (13 August), which showed the road accident attracting public attention.”
“She is believed to have suffered a heart attack while driving, which resulted in the accident,” he said. The woman was the only person in the vehicle.
A 1.52-second video of the aftermath went viral on social media, showing bystanders gathering around the vehicle. A man was also seen performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the woman at the scene.
She was rushed to Penang Hospital but died while receiving treatment. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
A police report was lodged on the same day and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
