Night Lane Closures on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah for Penang LRT Works

Featured

Motorists on one of Penang island’s busiest industrial corridors face months of nighttime disruptions as Pocket News reports intermittent partial lane closures along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah until 30 September.

The closures run nightly from 10pm to 5am and cover two stretches of the road: between Dynacraft Industries and B. Braun Medical Industries, and between Robert Bosch (M) and Cortex. MRT Corp confirmed the works are part of preliminary enabling activities for the Penang LRT Mutiara Line’s CMC1 package.

Tree removal, drainage relocation and road widening are scheduled across both directions. The leftmost lane in each direction will be affected, while all remaining lanes stay open to traffic.

The CMC1 package stretches from Komtar to Silicon Island and covers some of the island’s most congested commuting corridors, including Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas. According to Newswav, the broader closure programme along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Jalan Tengah has been in effect since April, with works carried out in stages across multiple sections of the road.

MRT Corp has deployed traffic personnel, safety barriers and directional signage to manage vehicle movement throughout the construction period. The agency advised motorists using the airport route, FTZ industrial belt and surrounding residential areas to expect slower traffic conditions at night and to follow posted signage.
