Malaysia Unveils New Passport With 94 Security Features, Holograms and UV Ink

Featured

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to launch the upgraded Malaysian International Passport today at the Parliament lobby, featuring 94 security features — nearly double the 49 found in the current version.

The redesigned travel document is the government’s latest move to strengthen national identity document security. It comes as Malaysia’s passport holds its place among the world’s most powerful travel documents.

Among the key upgrades: holographic elements, ultraviolet (UV) printing, hidden visual elements, and specialised forensic security features difficult to forge. The passport booklet’s binding thread has also been enhanced, while each page carries a unique design layout.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had earlier announced the rollout of redesigned passports and MyKad as part of a broader push to boost document and data security nationwide.

The new passport was originally scheduled for a 1 June launch but was delayed. Full nationwide issuance is expected by the end of July.

Malaysia’s passport was ranked the third most powerful globally in 2025 by the Passport Index, and the upgraded security features aim to make it even harder to counterfeit.
