A 29-year-old unemployed man has been arrested in connection with a 20km police chase across Penang that left 12 vehicles damaged, with videos of the incident circulating widely on social media.
The suspect was detained at a house in Gelugor around 8.30pm on Sunday, 3 May 2026, four days after the chase unfolded on the night of Thursday, 30 April.
The pursuit began at about 9pm near Jalan Tanjung Bungah when mobile patrol officers spotted a vehicle being driven suspiciously. When officers signalled for the driver to stop, he allegedly sped off, colliding with 12 other vehicles during a chase that ended in Bayan Baru.
Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed that 12 police reports had been lodged by motorists whose vehicles were damaged in the incident.
Magistrate Shyahirah Abdul Salim issued a remand order for the suspect until 7 May under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers dangerous driving causing hurt or damage.
A 43-second video clip of the chase has been widely shared on social media platforms.
