The Penang Marriott Complex, comprising Penang Marriott Hotel, Marriott Executive Apartments Penang, and Marriott Residences Penang, has promoted Michael Farag to the role of Multi-Property General Manager, marking the next chapter for the Gurney Drive property.
With more than two decades in hospitality spanning luxury hotels, resorts, pre-openings, and corporate roles across the Middle East and Southeast Asia, Farag brings a wide-ranging global perspective to the position. He steps into the role after serving as Acting Multi-Property General Manager and, prior to that, Multi-Property Director of Operations, where he was credited with strengthening financial performance and maintaining high guest satisfaction during a period of transition.
His portfolio includes leading properties through complex global events and rolling out quality assurance frameworks at both the corporate and international level. Colleagues describe him as a forward-thinking leader who aligns brand standards with commercial performance while fostering a people-first culture.
The promotion signals Marriott International’s confidence in its Penang operations as the complex continues to grow. Farag is known for building strong teams and creating environments where both staff and guests can thrive.
For the local market, the appointment reinforces the Penang Marriott Complex’s position as a key player in the state’s hospitality sector. Located at 55 Persiaran Gurney, the 55-storey tower houses 253 rooms, multiple dining outlets, an infinity pool, and the M Club lounge for Marriott Bonvoy elite members.
