He used to camp at this hill before it became viral on social media. It was a piece of heaven for him back then and on his recent trip there again, he was disappointed to see so much trash left by visitors.
Mhar Kashi Collings is a 41 year old outdoor enthusiast in Penang. He enjoys being close to nature and has made camping one of his passion. He also runs an outdoor camping experience company called Penang Outdoor.
Frog Hill, also known as Tasek Gelugor had recently been in the social media spotlight prompting droves of people to flock over the area to experience its beauty and take selfies for Instagram.
With increased traffic, Mhar saw an increase of trash all over the place. It’s not his trash, but it’s our planet. Instead of just complaining about it, he went on, in the scorching sun to collect two full bags of discarded drink containers, bottles, wrappers & other whatnots.
Here’s a little timelapse video montage he made of himself picking up trash.
Here’s his home for the night at this scenic hill. It boasts clear views of both sunrise and sunset from the east and west. The only caveat is that there is totally no shelter from heavy winds and rain. It rained that night but he survived to post about this.
Mhar thinks that there’s no harm in promoting beautiful places like this but he thinks that the education of the visitors is vital. He made this video and hoped that all of us will do our part to contribute, especially the younger generation to be aware.
“I know is not much of an effort alone but if every one of us has the awareness to protect our nature, it will help to keep our outdoor preserved for the next generation to generation.” he said.
