Penang’s ViTrox wins 2026 Global Technology Award for AI-powered X-ray inspection system

ViTrox has won the 2026 Global Technology Award for its V810Ai QX1 Smart 3D X-ray inspection system, an AI-powered machine that looks inside circuit boards for solder defects and hidden internal faults, Pocket News reported.

The award, in the inspection equipment category for X-ray systems, was presented on 27 October at SMTA International in Rosemont, Illinois, according to Global SMT & Packaging.

More than 240 units have been deployed worldwide within a single year, mainly at major AI-server manufacturers, the company said. ViTrox describes the system as answering inspection demands that have grown harder to meet as boards carry more computing power in less space.

The machine takes images at resolutions from 2 microns to 30 microns and scans at a tomography angle of up to 50 degrees, so it can build three-dimensional models of parts sitting under metal stiffeners and heat sinks. A high-speed configuration captures an image in as little as 1.1 seconds per field of view, which ViTrox puts at up to three times the throughput of its high-resolution version.

Two AI modules carry much of the work. AI Auto Buy-Off automates defect verification, and AI Void Inspection separates voids from uneven grey backgrounds and shading gradients. A hardware collimator with filter caps cuts X-ray exposure by up to 90%, which ViTrox says protects stacked high-bandwidth memory dies in flip chip and system-in-package assemblies.

“We are honoured to have the V810Ai QX1 recognised with a Global Technology Award,” said Lee Sung Way, senior director of research and development at ViTrox Technologies.

The board handling matters on AI-server boards, which can bow under heat and push parts out of focus. ViTrox fits the system with real-time laser profiling and autofocus, so the scan adjusts to warpage and produces a heat map of the board surface as it works.

The awards have run since 2005 and cover new products in the printed circuit assembly and packaging industries. ViTrox, which is based in Batu Kawan, Penang, builds automated vision inspection systems for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, and lists applications for this model from surface-mount production through to flip chip and system-in-package work.

ViTrox did not disclose what the award carries, and the organisers did not publish shipment or revenue figures beyond the unit count the company released.
