Island LandCap Hospitality Sdn Bhd has officially launched the Penang International Convention, Cultural & Arts Centre (PICCA), also known as the Butterworth Arena. The double-storey, state-of-the-art convention centre was built at a cost of RM59 million by the Penang State Government and is expected to become a key driver for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) gatherings on the mainland.
An extraordinary media & business associate appreciation event was hosted last evening. This gala event took place in the Butterworth Arena, the biggest convention centre in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia, with a seating capacity of around 4,000 people. The evening was filled with stunning stage performances and a great sense of camaraderie.
The founder of Island LandCap Hospitality, Dato’ Oon Weng Boon, in his welcome speech, stated that the state-of-the-art facilities at Butterworth Arena were unparalleled and could cater to meetings, events, big or small. He also thanked the hospitality fraternity, which includes the state government, hotels, small-and-medium associations, and event companies, for their support in holding functions at the venue.
During the event, the official website of PICCA was launched by the Grand Orient Hotel manager James Chang, along with Dato’ Oon and his team, in the presence of State Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin. In his speech, Yeoh expressed his determination to draw significant-scale events to PICCA and promised the full support of the state government in this regard.
The launch of PICCA @ Butterworth Arena marks a momentous occasion for Penang and the events industry as a whole. The centre is expected to attract events from all over the world, becoming a hub for business innovation, and helping to establish Penang as a world-class destination for MICE events.
