A 49-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was trapped beneath a 10-tonne lorry in an accident along Jalan Bukit Tengah in Bukit Mertajam on 3 August.
The victim, Sim Chin Chuan, was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel after firefighters pulled him from under the vehicle, NST reported.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 9.40am. Firefighters from the Bukit Mertajam station arrived 16 minutes later and found Sim pinned beneath a 10-tonne Hino lorry.
“The rescue team immediately began extricating the victim from beneath the lorry,” he said in a statement.
The operation involved eight firefighters with a Light Fire Rescue Tender and an emergency medical response vehicle. Police and Health Ministry personnel also assisted at the scene, Sinar Harian reported.
The lorry driver, believed to be in his 30s, was not injured. The body was handed over to police for further action. The operation ended at 10.18am.
Police are investigating the accident.
