More than 800 runners from running clubs across Penang gathered at the Aspen Head Office on Macalister Road last Sunday for the PBIM Social Run Clinic 2026, marking the official start of the Road to Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon 2026 campaign.
The event, organised by Forward Sports Club in collaboration with Aspen with the support of the Penang State EXCO Office for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), brought together runners of all abilities for social runs, practical training sessions and race preparation clinics.
Experienced coaches and pacers shared insights on training principles, pacing, injury prevention and race-day strategies. The event also gave runners from different clubs a platform to connect and exchange experiences.
Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai said the overwhelming response reflects the growing popularity of running in Penang and increasing anticipation for the December marathon.
“Seeing more than 800 runners from running clubs across Penang come together is truly inspiring,” he said. “PBIM is more than just a marathon. It has become a platform that encourages healthier lifestyles, strengthens community bonds and further establishes Penang as one of Malaysia’s leading destinations for sports tourism.”
Aspen Group Managing Director Ir. Anilarasu Amaranazan highlighted the importance of creating an inclusive sporting environment. “This year marks Aspen’s third consecutive year partnering in PBIM. One of the most inspiring aspects of this marathon is its ability to unite people from all walks of life, regardless of age, experience or ability,” he said.
Visually impaired runners also joined the social run, reinforcing the message that running is open to everyone.
YB Wong added that the Road to PBIM series plays an important role in helping runners prepare safely while building engagement within the local running community.
“Today’s Social Run Clinic marks the beginning of the journey towards Aspen-Klippa PBIM 2026. We look forward to welcoming thousands more runners over the coming months as we build towards another memorable edition of Penang’s premier marathon,” he said.
The Aspen-Klippa PBIM 2026 takes place on 13 December 2026, with more than 20,000 runners expected from Malaysia and around the world.
