The Courtyard by Marriott Penang Icon City will be located within Icon City, a four-hectare integrated commercial development in Bukit Mertajam. The 196-room hotel is expected to open in December 2026 following the rebranding of the existing Iconic Hotel Penang.
The property sits within reach of the North-South Expressway and Penang International Airport, with direct access to major industrial zones including the Prai Free Industrial Zone, Penang Science Park, Batu Kawan Industrial Park and Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
Andree Susilo, Vice President, Hotel Development – Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International, said Malaysia remains an important growth market for the company. He added that the partnership with Iconic Group reflects the strength of relationships Marriott seeks to build with owners who share its long-term vision for growth.
The hotel’s phased transformation will cover public spaces, restaurants, recreational facilities and guestrooms. Post-renovation, guests can expect an all-day dining restaurant, a café and a bar, an outdoor swimming pool, and a fitness centre with sauna and steam rooms. For events, the hotel will feature a 640-square-metre divisible ballroom and two meeting rooms.
Dato’ Seri Tan Kean Tet, Chairman of Iconic Group, said the signing marks another milestone in the company’s relationship with Marriott International and reflects confidence in Penang Mainland’s continued growth. The two companies previously collaborated on the Iconic Marjorie Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel.
