Police have obtained a two-day remand extension for a 37-year-old man following a road rage incident in Bayan Lepas, Penang, in which he allegedly criminally intimidated another driver and made obscene gestures along Jalan Tun Dr Awang.
Southwest district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuwal Ab Wahab said the extension began on Sunday.
“We have managed to obtain a two-day remand extension against the man to facilitate further investigation into the case. He is expected to be charged on Wednesday,” he told the New Straits Times.
The incident occurred at 11.27am on Thursday, when the suspect, driving a Perodua Myvi, allegedly cut abruptly in front of the complainant’s vehicle before stopping.
He then stepped out of his car, wielded an object believed to be a metal rod and swung it towards the complainant’s vehicle. The incident was captured on the complainant’s dashboard camera and the footage later went viral on social media.
Police arrested the suspect following investigations. Checks revealed he had previous criminal and drug-related records, while a preliminary urine screening test returned positive for methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
