The Penang City Council (MBPP) has ordered the closure of a food court complex in the Barat Daya district for 14 days following the discovery of a cockroach infestation in the kitchen and food preparation areas.

In a statement, MBPP reported that during an operation to assess the cleanliness of food premises, the hygiene level at the food court was found to be below the set standards. “The food court complex has been ordered to close its premises immediately for 14 days effective today until June 8, in accordance with By-Law 38 (1), By-Laws (Food Establishments) MPPP 1991,” the statement read.

The operation focused on various aspects, including the licensing conditions stipulated by MBPP, such as the validity of the business licence, the general cleanliness of the premises, and compliance by food operators. These details were communicated via a post on MBPP’s Facebook page.

MBPP underscored its focus on the cleanliness of food outlets to ensure that the food provided to customers meets hygienic standards.
