A family of seven narrowly escaped death in a car crash when their Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) skidded off the road and crashed into an electric pole along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway in Batu Uban.
The incident was reported after an emergency call was received, prompting the immediate dispatch of a fire engine from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station. Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Mohd Shoki Hamzah detailed the response, stating that firefighters found a single vehicle involved in the crash, with three adults trapped inside. The adults, aged between 20 and their 40s, were extricated using special equipment by the rescue personnel.
The rescue operation began after the emergency call was received at 1:56 am, and the victims were successfully extricated by 2:54 am. They were then transported to Penang Hospital for treatment. The injuries included a broken arm, as well as head and abdominal injuries. Four children, three boys and a girl, who were also in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Mohd Shoki Hamzah emphasized the swift and effective response of the rescue team, highlighting the critical nature of the incident and the importance of timely intervention in saving lives.
