The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has approved additional funding for Penang’s Community Sports Fund (DSK) after the state fully utilised its initial RM800,000 allocation earlier this year.
Penang was recognised as one of the earliest and fastest states to exhaust its 2026 DSK allocation. The National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN) will formally apply for the additional allocation.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari announced the approval during the state-level National Youth Day 2026 celebrations in Bukit Mertajam.
“Penang is among the earliest and fastest to exhaust the Community Sports Fund. JBSN will submit an application, and I have agreed for Penang to receive additional funding. I urge youth organisations to use the funds as best as possible, move down to the grassroots level, and ensure that programmes continue to be implemented.”
Dr Mohammed Taufiq said the DSK serves a dual purpose beyond producing athletes.
“The DSK does not merely support sports activities and efforts to produce more athletes, but also serves as a platform to connect young people with the local community,” he said.
He added that youth development programmes must run continuously rather than as one-off events to deliver high impact and direct benefits to the target group.
Other funding channelled to Penang includes the Sports Matching Grant (Windows 1 and 2) totalling RM500,000 and RM106,000 in Assistance to Youth Organisations for 2026.
The minister also urged Penang’s youth organisations to actively apply for the Sejati Madani funds, following the Prime Minister’s approval of a RM250 million national allocation for youth organisations.
Also present at the event was Penang’s youth, sports, and health committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen.
