A tragic incident occurred in Penang when a massive tree fell onto a car, resulting in the deaths of two Chinese tourists, believed to be a father and daughter duo. The accident happened near the Pinang Peranakan Mansion in Lebuh Gereja.
Firemen managed to retrieve the bodies of a man in his 50s and a woman in her 30s from the wreckage. The man was seated in the rear seat, while the woman was found in the front passenger seat. The driver of the vehicle escaped unhurt.
A crane was required to lift the tree, which had its roots attached to a slab of concrete walls that came down with it. The duo had finished visiting the attraction site and were leaving when the tragedy struck.
Two other empty cars parked beside the trees were also damaged. This incident is part of a series of severe weather-related events in Penang, which has seen strong winds, floods, and numerous trees downed across the region.
