“Butterflies are much more than delicate creatures that capture our imagination; they are vital indicators of the health of our ecosystems. Their presence, or absence, can tell us a great deal about the state of the environment,” said YB Wong Hon Wai when speaking at the opening of ICBES 2024 here today.

“As we face the growing challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss, the work you all do, whether through exhibits, research or conservation programmes, becomes ever more vital. Efforts ensure that future generations will not only experience the beauty of butterflies but also understand the role they play in maintaining the ecological balance.”

International Association of Butterfly and Exhibitors & Suppliers (IABES) President Kimberly Kelly stated in her speech “The work that we do, whether it’s through education, breeding and exhibits, play an essential role in ensuring that the future generations can continue to appreciate the beauty and importance of butterflies.
