The Penang Marriott Hotel celebrated its first anniversary last week, highlighting a year of significant achievements in hospitality and community service since its February 2024 opening.
The luxury hotel, situated along Gurney Drive, commemorated its milestone with a Grand Opening Ceremony attended by the Governor of Penang, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, and Marriott International’s Chairman of the Board, Mr David Marriott.

Subash Basrur, General Manager of Penang Marriott Complex, reflected on the hotel’s journey. “This past year has been an incredible journey of passion, dedication, and teamwork,” he said. “We are proud not only of the exceptional service we provide but also of the strong connections we’ve built with our guests and the local community.”
The hotel has made substantial contributions to local charitable causes. Their ‘Beary Merry Christmas’ campaign raised MYR 40,000 for the Children’s Protection Society Penang, while their ‘Road to Give’ charity run attracted 1,200 participants and generated MYR 60,000 for the National Kidney Foundation Malaysia.
The 55-storey property features 223 rooms and provides extensive facilities including an M Club lounge for Marriott Bonvoy elite members, a Kids Club, a 24-hour fitness centre, and an outdoor infinity swimming pool overlooking the Gurney seafront. Business facilities include a pillarless ballroom and five function rooms.
As the hotel enters its second year of operations, it maintains its focus on delivering premium guest experiences while strengthening its community engagement initiatives.
